The original version of this book was created at the R.J. Donovan Correctional Facility as part of the UCLA Extension Program in 1989 By JD Estrada
Over 70 Pages of Art. "Whenever I had a chance, I would sketch—whether on a court pass, a legal document, or any scrap of paper I could find." JD Estrada
This book features over 70 images of artwork I created while in prison.
Poems, thoughts, and Writings
- The journal is not presented in chronological order but instead organized by themes:
- HERITAGE: An introspective exploration of my personal life.
- PERSONAL REFLECTIONS: A spiritual journey that helped me find light in a dark place.
- SOCIAL PERCEPTIONS: With time in abundance, I often pondered the question “why.”
- PRISON COMMUNITY: Sketches and writings that challenge the rules and norms of prison life.
Inspirational and thought-provoking. It might have been easier to blend into the prison environment, hoping to go unnoticed. But that was far from the reality of life behind bars.
